Part two.
Randi and Noah are having the "Best Week Ever!"
I wouldn't be writing this if things with Chris Flores had turned out differently.
Luckily the folks in Oklahoma...are kind, friendly, fun, and good drivers. Also quite lucky for us...Chris Flores, a guy Noah and I hitched a ride home with at 4 am, is not a psycho.........
We headed to Tulsa last weekend to do the NACA Conference-
This is a huge event where college students come together to suck on pixie stix and red bull, and watch acts perform. Likewise, performers go to NACA to suck on pixie sticks and red bull and perform for college students.
Our showcase was great...20 minutes.
You get 20 minutes to play
ONLY 20 minutes, or they shut your sound off.
20 minutes of music with 4 clocks on stage that count down from 20...
AND they start flashing when you have 30 seconds left.
You REALLY need to imagine this.
It counts down from 20 ....
BACKWARDS...from 20:00
which means......
that's right..
there's math involved.......
so we subtract, while playing, and singing, and talking..
and entertaining the college students high on pixie stix and red bull..
When we get to our last song, at 4:00 on the clock...it's like a race to the finish...we start "In Your Eyes..."
"Love....I get so lost sometimes...."
the clock shows our remaining time..
3:42
we continue ....
but somewhere --shortly after the second chorus..
the clock starts FLASHING.....ever so slowly...
1:30
slowly,
I try to hold my focus
then at 1:00
it flashes...a little faster...faster..
I look at Noah whose drum solo is strangely speeding up..
I look at the clock :54
flash... flash..... flash..
the college students are singing,
and we are speeding up...
Noah's hands are drumming...
he's sweating...
I'm singing, pounding...
trying to remember what booth number I am supposed to tell them to go to,
and what the hell city we are in....
the clock is flashing faster...!!!!
faster!!!
:28
faster,!
"your eyes",
faster;
your EYES
everyone sing "your eyes"
faster !!!!
:7
"your eyes "
flash! flash ! Flash!!!!!
your eyes...
(at this point I think my head is going to pop off, and the stage will explode)
:3 flash flash flash flash
"SOMEBODY CUT THE BLUE WIRE!"
"YOUR eyeeEYYYYYSSSSSsss!!!"
annnnd,
DONE
ah.
we made it.
The people were great...and we had a great time in OK...met a lot of really wonderful people from all over the middle part of the country....
I should have headed home to bed...for an early flight...I should have stalked Garth Brooks in the lobby of our hotel where he was staying (why?..I don't know, sounds good...)
But instead, Noah insisted we hit the Double Tree bar.(and you KNOW how he just had to throw a fit and DRAG me over there...kicking and screaming). So we hung out with some of the folks from the conference.this included some agents.some reality TV starts.(someone from the real world Austin, an Average Joe, who wrote something on my shoulder I can't read, some comedians, some musicians including Ross Copperman who played the Yamaha so hard, he bled on the keys.(easy killer.) A spoken word artist.a guy who juggles chain saws...ON, that funny guy from best week ever Christian Finnegan...and our agents from On Campus...
It started out innocently enough with a red bull vodka.but it's a slippery slope folks.and before you know it your gambling on a dice game in the lobby of a hotel bar, stuffing a bottle of Jack Daniels in a sofa.
Our cohorts for the evening - (to protect their professional identity I'll refer to them as Jim and Vance) had kept our thirst quenched and our minds enlightened..(you know, for a small commission)
So - Back to NY...missing a black sweater (the things we leave in bars) and ready for a break.which we have.just a short one, before we head back to CA.thanks for everything see you at the shows.

September was great...
it included a fantastic house concert for Project Warmth hosted by Amy and the Every Day Angels! check them out on the site they are doing great work...www.edaf.org
We took over her piano, her living room ...and verbally assaulted her audience...lovingly...and with their blessing. We had so much fun.and they were all so funny! and it was for a good cause.but take heed.there are 97 cats living in Jersey City.
Off to Fresno for the Reel Pride Film Festival...
The kick off of the opening ceremonies was the Making Of What Matters (a documentary about the making of the music video for What Matters). Followed by a surprise performance by Randi Driscoll.(well, they told me...). I was joined on stage by members of several community choirs and the Rainbow Singers...to perform What Matters.it was such a beautiful event... I got so choked up..! Thank you Kevin Waldrop and Groovy Like a Movie for entering the film.and members of the Fresno film festival...for taking a collection for the Matthew Shepard Foundation! YOU ALL inspire me...
From Fresno...to Denver, to perform at the Out and Equal summit. Judy Shepard spoke beautifully, as usual, and I was thrilled to be back in Denver, to see Chris and Andrew. The Event was fantastic.and a big shout out to them for such an enormous turn out! Thank you for the invitation!
October began with our beautiful event for the Matthew Shepard Foundation at Birdland...hosted by the amazing Jim Caruso. We had a great show with performances by Max von Essen, Christopher Sieber, Jim Caruso, David Gurland, Tracy Stark, Jason and de Marco, Billy Stritch and Scott Nevins. I've included some pictures from the event!
The evening raised money for the Matthew Shepard Foundation and brought together a wonderful group of audience members and performers to honor Matthew's memory.
The following day, Noah and I took a train out to Montclair New Jersey to perform a Montclair St college.great gig. Thanks to Nicole for being so cool.they actually made the evening a benefit for the Matthew Shepard foundation with, get this...lollipops that read.Hate Sucks! Lick it! love it!
interesting fact #1
Elizabeth Shue, Zach Braff and Roy Shieder do not attend Montclair St University...Other Columbia High School graduates do.
interesting fact #2
There is a Diner on the campus of Montclair State University where you can indulge in grilled cheese, gravy fries and moussaka. Very Jersey.
At the end of October I headed to New Mexico to record new material for the upcoming cd... with our amazing producer Larry Mitchell! After a few days in beautiful Santa Fe we headed to Albuquerque for the Shaken Baby Alliance Ride to Action and concert. We admire all of the wonderful people involved in this organization.and their devotion to stopping Shaken Baby Syndrome...and child abuse.
Thanks so much to everyone for hosting the event!!!
After our beautiful event in Albq... we headed back to NY for about 4 hours...
We performed at a wedding rehearsal dinner, where we met some amazing people.
Mostly San Diegans...who have all invited me to live with me them.ok, so maybe I'm stretching it a little...)
few hours later I was on a flight to San Diego.
I did some great shows with Tim Flannery. An outdoor house concert, it rained, we simply moved the party inside and stood on the sofas...We did a songwriter night at Cane's hosted by the beautiful Cathryn Beeks...sound by the fabulous Johnny...(Acoustic Alliance) we had a blast. I drank wine, and remembered the last time I think we played Canes was to open for Dar Williams...Surreal moment number #108 As I recall, I sang Hallelujah with Dar on stage that night to honor Jeff Buckley...wow.
Tim and I also did a concert at the Botanical Gardens in SD and somewhere before I stepped on the plane and ran into Noelle, missing her angel wings...(long story) I tried to recall why my heels where broken... and remembered what happens in Vegas stays in....blah blah blah...
In any case, now I'm back in NY but heading to Oklahoma today. "No mom, I'm not going to sing Surrey with a Fringe on Top at the dinner table for Aunt Irene...gaaaaaawwwd!
We are heading out to Tulsa for NACA. We always have a blast at these...last time we played at NACA, Screech from Saved by the Bell rode around the vendor area on a motorized toilet...
I need a coffee
Talk to you soon...
but before I go...
We are sad to report Noah's drums were stolen by a cabby in Brooklyn, (doesn't that SUCK!?) The wounds are still fresh. So when you see him, just put your arms around him and show Drum Sugar some love..!!!!
In the meantime- we'll gladly take your used cowbells, egg shakers and toydrums...
peace

Elmo, DU' BOYZ, and beautiful acts of civil disobedience!
Read All
We've been pretty busy lately - back on the road doing lots of great events. Last week at Adelphi University , 100 students gathered, at what they called- " an act of civil disobedience gay marriage ceremony"..where they married other same sex partners..in a school sponsored let me repeat .. "school sponsored" event, to show the students support of gay marriage ?! COOL Several straight and gay students participated...( sort of like mock marriages...) it was amazing! The school provided a room, a full dinner and champagne glass souvenirs that read " Operation, END HATE- Gay Marriage and Reception"
I played a few songs and spoke about MSF During What Matters...the students, spontaneously......began slow dancing in same sex couples on the floor.
I was crying..they were crying.. and we raised over $300 dollars in cd sales.. from the students for the Foundation. Thanks to Maria and Peter for setting this up..it was great!
The following Friday night in New Hope PA (one of the greatest little towns in the USA. very funky sort of like Woodstock meets Berkeley) I performed a concert with our friends Jason and deMarco. The concert took place at New Hope High School and was sponsored by a local Church. Several gay priests were being ordained....for the Old Catholic order..
Father Bruce J. Simpson was there (he's written many books including, -Dear God, it's me..and I'm Gay) It was a great event--- I'm looking forward to visiting New Hope in April when I play Odettes!
FUN at ELMO! This event was fantastic! probably about 100 + folks at Elmo in Chelsea.
This group was so fun..and SO responsive...Dan Melesurgo did an amazing job bringing this event to life. It just goes to show you what one person can do to make a difference.
With Rums on Puerto Rico helping out, several of his friends donating many gifts for the raffle..and of course, ELMO, a fantastic club really coming through for us - the night was just perfect.
Jai Rodriguez said some really nice words about the importance of the Foundation and then sang a beautiful Josh Grobin song. We were thrilled he could join us.
It was a wonderful evening..and I'm thrilled that it came together so well! Dan was able to raise several thousand dollars for the Foundation that evening.
THANK YOU DAN!
The following week Noah and I hit two great Colleges in PA. THE DRIVE was LOOOOONNNGGGG. We had a great time in Altoona and Dubois...( pronounced DU' BOYZ!!) Thanks to everyone for being so great. We enjoyed seeing our friend/ fan Collin who drove several hours in the snow to hear us! I met Colin a few years back when I performed in Erie! He's kept in touch ever since..and pops up every time he can for East Coast SHOWZ!
Here are some pics for ya...including one from the Manager's reception at the Best Western in Du Bois! ( ? ) Free wine and cheese hosted by the manager, in the lobby of the hotel, the last Wed of every month. ----WHAT LUCK, we hit it! A little Blizzard didn't stop us from driving down from our hotel rooms, to grab our free cabernet and talk to the local folk..who were SO nice!
That's all for now, check back in a few days for the BEAR TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE UPDATE and pictures from our 2nd trip to PA-!

Twas the Night Before Christmas and all through Twiggs café...not a creature was stirring, (well.....that one guy, buy hey!?)

We had a great trip to CA, as usual.
The show in LA was great...
thanks to Donna and Jenna for the keyboards..
MUCH appreciated...
I could have played both...
and thanks TIM for a great show on the Star of India.
RANDI's DAMN JINGLE BALL was wonderful.
Thanks to Pete, Lisa, Karen and of course, Noah for playing...John for sound...Jess for help with cds and last, but not least, "Santa" for his guest appearance. BELIEVE ME......I HAD NO IDEA...although, someone tells me...there is a little elf named NOAH!
Twas the Night Before Christmas and all through Twiggs café...
not a creature was stirring, (well.....that one guy, buy hey!?)
The crowd had all gathered in small folding chairs...
in the hopes that a show, would soon happen there!
The blondes were all nestled and snug in their rows,
with visions of Noah and his big........drum solo!!
And Lisa and Karen had played so darn nice
there wasn't a doubt this would be quite a night !
Until from the third row, there arose such a clatter..
a "Sing it Girl" from an audience member, much louder than chatter.
Away from the soundboard, John flew like a flash,
to ask the kind fellow to "shut up"- or Dash!
When what to my wondering eyes should appear...
but Santa Clause entering the stage from the rear...!
With a curly white wig, the best he could get,
I knew in an instant----- it had to be BRETT!
More rapid than Snoop Dog, he pulled out his rhyme,
and called out his cohorts one name at a time,
"On Shana! On Vicky! On Carrie! On Tina!
On Randi! On Noah! On Lisa! and Annina!
From the back of the green room, to the front cd table,
dash away! dash away!...(cause this crowd's unstable!)
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his shoes..
and I think on his breath...we all smelled some BOOZE!
He made us sing something, like, "Ride me big Santa"
I was trying to breathe (you can picture that, can't cha?)
His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
And I sat there laughing as hard as I could,
I thought I might pass out...("if only I would"!)
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon let me know I had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word, but finished his rap..
and snuck off the stage as we all began to clap..!
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, to go on with the show...
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
"HAVE A MERRY DAMN JINGLE BALL--- AND to all a GOODNIGHT!"
and just in case you thought I was kidding----
here are some pictures courtesy of Christopher Maluck!

Oct 12th event at SIRIUS!
On Oct. 12th, in NYC...SIRIUS Satellite Radio...hosted the VIDEO RELEASE for WHAT MATTERS
The evening was beautiful.
The event took place from 6-10 and coincided with a live broadcast of the Derek and Romaine show on OUT Q!
Derek and Romaine are amazing...and they turned over their show to celebrate Matthew Shepard's Memory on the anniversary of his death. (Romaine, you may recall, was a close friend of Matthew's)
During the on air show...several celebrity guests arrived and spoke about how Matthew's death had affected them...and how they had seen things change...in the years since his death. Celebrities also phoned in and callers were able to phone in questions as well. Judy Shepard also spoke on air...and took phone calls.
It was eye opening and moving experience. Then, during the third hour...Jason Drew, another DJ on Sirius, hosted an in studio performance with my band. Noah Heldman, Dave Eggar and David Gurland joined me for the on air performance.
Our friends Jason and DeMarco, and amazing pop duo from LA, came to NY for the event and performed a song from their cd, spirit pop! It was fantastic! Thanks so much for everyone's support!
Finally the music video for What Matters, (filmed by Jeff Baker and edited by the amazing staff at Autonomy) and the making of What Matters (produced and created by GROOVY LIKE A MOVIE in San Diego) were premiered in the lobby during the event!
Thanks to everyone at SIRIUS RADIO and of course, the Matthew Shepard Foundation...for making the evening possible.
For more info about the video...and the wonderful work of The Matthew Shepard Foundation.please log on to www.MatthewShepard.org!

SEPT - OCT NOTES!
I've been a bit behind on the diary notes...
My apologies but it's been a great few months and we've been super busy.
I'll start with my trip to So. CA. - Sept.
Somewhere between rational thinking and a mild case of self destruction, I thought it might be fun to bring my 82 yr old grandmother on tour with us!
Ok, not exactly like "nana, grab a groupie and a boa and get on the bus!.but she DID accompany me to San Diego for our shows. It was my b-day gift to her that included an upgrade to first class on the flight out.
First CLASS!!! Nana was thrilled with the large leather seats, the nice china and the little bottles of "free" Bombay Sapphire that conveniently fit into her shirt pocket!
Nana enjoyed playing with her foot rest, her head set and her window shade, all while reading about Bay once' (her pronunciation of Beyonce) in People magazine. AND - Somewhere over Arizona, she tried to slip the bread, butter and salt & pepper shakers into her Le Sportsac.
GOOD TIMES
We stayed in HOTEL CIRCLE, conveniently located near Fashion Valley Mall.Downtown.and Tequila!
While in SD, Nana discovered that Pina Coladas are in fact, every bit as good as gin and tonics.! AND SO, Nana pretty much steered clear of sobriety the entire trip. - See, she IS a rock star.
IN between flirting with waiters and cussing at audience members.(all in jest) Nana enjoyed visiting with her friends.and being our favorite part of any show!!!! She really is the life of the party.
AND speaking of shows... Noah and I played some great shows in San Diego. We visited Dizzy's downtown on a Thursday.(beautiful club!). Noah played fantastic.as per usual - and I was able to coerce our friend Brett up on stage to act out a Dawson's Creek scene! (OOHH. that was fun. - He really made quite a lovely 17 yr old girl!)
Thanks to everyone for coming out and saying hello!
SAT~
Noah and I played a show at Annina's house...
HOUSE concert blow out!
Annina had about 80 people in crammed into her lovely beach town property. Some came for the music, some for the baklava and some simply came to steal things from her home!
We had such a good time.
There was an interactive portion to the show where Annina and Brett acted out."something".to Tell Me. (It may have been a Dawson's Creek episode.or it MAY have been their entire history since childhood.not really sure!)
But I've always said, A Randi Driscoll show is better and CHEAPER than a therapy sessions...
We met some wonderful people that night and saw some fans we'd been missing. The best part was.we were able to auction off Junior to the highest bidder to pay for our flight home!
Seriously, thank you so much Annina, Tina your family.everyone.really, for the help setting things up.
(I seriously think you should keep the folding chairs in the living room.it's very MODERN)
Before heading out...
I did a show at the Del Mar Beach with Flan. That was beautiful and fun! Jack Tempchin, Jeff Berkley, Calman Hart and Steve Poltz showed up to play. Lots of folks got up to play and we had a great time. I had a chance to see some great musicians and friends I hadn't seen in a while---AND I'd been missing the beach! so it was especially nice.
I should probably mention that Nana managed to pick up an 84 yr old man during our first 3 songs.Then.feeling a bit brave but agitated by an annoying hang nail - she wandered up on stage during our encore in search of a band-aid. Nana found the BAND, not a band-aid.
And there you have it.
SD was great. On the way home...Nana was discouraged that we were not in first class, like we had been on the way out.~~~She insists those seats really ARE better.
Nana made it home safely and I headed to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to be a part of a wonderful production of the Laramie Project. The community of Jackson Hole, presented not only the play.but a wonderful question and answer forum afterwards.
They also hosted an anti-hate symposium at at local church followed by a speaking engagement by Judy Shepard at a near by high school.
I was honored to perform at the production and meet all of the wonderful people who got to put this together! It was a very moving and inspirational experience.
And might I add...Jackson Hole is BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for showing us around Jim!
I had some time to shop and site-see - and, thanks to Kaye and Judy...I learned that the cute little pony on all of the Wyoming merchandise is really called Cowboy Joe! (or is it Bill?)
Whoops!
Well, that's all for now!!!...
More to come in the next entry like - a Tennis Jam, a VIDEO release, and a brand new cd! (and that my friends.is what we call a "teaser"........)

Fantastic~
've done some great shows...including one with our friend Zach from Ohio (pics comin' soon!). Zach is a wonderful singer /songwriter we first met in Ohio. He has been touring a lot and we joined him at the CNOTE NYC for a show a few weeks back. FOR more info about Zach, please go to www.zachmusic.net
I was fortunate enough to do a wonderful event in NYC for Braking the Cycle~~Thanks so much to Blake Strasser for putting it together...The concert was a beautiful evening...for a great cause. Thanks to the amazing David Gurland for his beautiful set. For more info about Braking the Cycle...how you can ride...and how you can stop the devastation of Aids through EDUCATION...please go to www.brakingthecycle.org
This summer I was blessed to join the Gay Men's Chorus Of Los Angeles on stage at Place des Arts in Montreal for the GALA convention. Performing with the chorus was one of my greatest moments I've ever experienced...truly. The chorus sounded amazing singing Kevin Robison's beautiful arrangement of "What Matters"...and I was moved to tears by there beautiful interpretation. Thanks to Bruce Mayhall for putting together a beautiful program.and all of the men for making me feel so "loved'! To hear our version of What Matters, please visit www.gmcla.com. There, you can purchase a copy of RED, WHITE AND BLUE! (a dollar from each CD benefits the Matthew Shepard Foundation)
: ))) Love you GMCLA!
There are some pics from the GMCLA's after party at the hotel! (on the photos page!). The RED PARTY was a blast! Thanks to the members of VOX Femina for some of the pics...and the beautiful sounds at the GALA convention~Thanks to JOZ for the pics www.JocelynWang.com
Sometime in July...(and yes Noah, if you are reading this.I am totally going out of order...) we celebrated my "Leoism"...(I'm trying to make up new words in my attempt to leave my mark on the English vernacular).
So we celebrated at NYC's famous Birdland.
Jim Caruso, throws this fabulous party on Monday nights. It's like a B'way open mic.and you never know who is going to drop in. Jim often performs with Billy Stritch on piano and it's great when they do! They were nice enough to let us go up on stage and perform What Matters for a full house. It was magical and I can't wait to go back.
After Birdland, we did a small show at the Cornelia St. Café. I love this club, located in the heart of the West Village. I always have a great time there...(and they have a great wine list in case your lookin'). Thanks to Valerie Ghent for putting together a wonderful songwriter's night.
After Cornelia St..we headed to NC ...to perform at NC state. It was great! After NC State we traveled back to New York,
(Wait.wait.hold on a minute there Justine!!!! I"M KIDDING...I'm KIDDINGGGGG!!!
OK, NC State.
Where to begin...
Well, back in February...I had the pleasure of visiting North Carolina to perform in conjunction with a diversity program and a lecture series by Judy Shepard. Noah wasn't able to join me.but I had a great time! .
The fun started right away on our ride to the Velvet Cloak Inn! (Frodo the bell man at your service???!) We took a scenic route to the hotel and that was amazing. Thank you sweet Tomecca!
college was great.the staff was great...Chris filled in as sound man! And the students did a great job pulling it together. A group of us went out after the gig, (to Applebee's where the pie is ever so sexy).and we met some not-so locals. Interesting "folks" to say the least. There was an excitable waiter really "selling" his "Texas toast" and other famous southern treats, not to mention some real friendly gentlemen from Georgia.who admitted to me that their life long dream was to run away to California and open an In and Out Burger! (Their short term dream however, was simply to find cheap beer and a strip club.which, from this point forward, shall be referred to, as "The Dollhouse"). After a night full of wonderful company and southern hospitality which included Carolina Crusties, Red Boots, and plans of Robin quitting her job and following me around the world as my official "Spreader of Joy!" I headed back to my room and dreamed of another trip to NC.
"When I awoke".it was sunny and humid and I could smell the sweet aroma of funnel cake and corndogs in the air...AHH! I was in fact BACK, at NC State.
This time, I was staying at a lovely Hilton, along with 278 senior citizen square dancers! HEE HAW...they were a lively bunch! (Apparently Noah liked their outfits so much, that he stormed into an occupied hotel room to see if he could borrow a cowboy shirt and studded belt.or...as he'll tell ya."the front desk gave me wrong key-- I swear!")
During this hoo-ha I was back in my own room, battling a spider from mars. Luckily, my screams of terror were heard far above the sounds of banjo music and Noah ran to my rescue. He agreed, this was in fact the scariest spider since that unfortunate incident with Ms. Muffett.
(Ok, I'm serious tho'.the thing was huge!)
screams, threw the spider into shock, which gladly made it easier to place him in to a cup for a burial outside by the parking lot.
I cried a little.
We arrived at NC state in the late afternoon...92 degrees.and humid! Everyone was working so hard to pull the event together and make it fantastic. After our sound check, Noah dined on shaved ice and the largest Turkey legs I have ever seen... ~~~and ...well, I cried a little more....
The stage was set for Randi Driscoll and I believe the sign read....
Food
Randi Driscoll
Magician
Randi Driscoll!!!
Who's the superstar now folks!??? : )
I love this group of staff and students. Truly. They always make us feel welcome. Our set was the usual blend of new songs, older ballads, pop covers and *mosquitos.
(*see Cleveland Pride)
During our break, Noah, in true rock star fashion, threw a cup of ice all over the floor of the dressing room. He's impossible. Really. With clear disregard for the Student Activities board office!
Our second set was a bit late.due to the fact that the magician got on a little late. To tell you the truth, I was beginning to feel a little inadequate about my lack of stage props, hand puppets and magic wands. In my defense, I promised to turn my drummer into a guitarist at some point during my set! ; )
Our second set was to a smaller crowd, but full of our favorite folks. Jim sang along with some of his friends! We could hardly wait to finish our set so I could do another version of the NC STATE RAP, where I point out some of my favorite happenings of the day.
Like the dosey do'ing, the smell of turkey legs to a PETA loving singer, the heckling of rowdy audience members, slow dancing divas, the glow in the dark necklaces, the cell phones.and of course, the way if you squinted ...just right, you could pretend the mosquitos were the tiny heads of million of fans!
I love you NC State! And I can't wait to come back. Your school is as beautiful as the people there! (that's for you Deb!)
I'm home now, which is on the east coast for a while.working on new songs....and new recordings! We have some great gigs coming up.and some touring. If you are reading this and saying to yourself "I wish I could have that kind of fun on my campus...FEAR NOT...you can!" Just let us know when you want us and we'll be there! We promise to provide our own instruments, talent, and magic tricks
We'll see you at the shows.
Thanks for your continued support.

Why do they only give you honey roasted peanuts...I don't like these nuts. These Nuts Suck! Bring back the DRY ROAST!
ok, so going back about 4 weeks...I was in WI for the third annual ARCH benefit concert. Great organization great kids...I always have a blast.
The concert was held at the church in town, and some new folks showed up. Noah got really sick right before the trip..so he had to cancel...but that didn't stop him from playing drums to a speaker phone in San Diego, via a cel phone, set on a stool, in front of a mic...in church in WI.
You'll have to see it for yourself sometime to understand.
The next day, I performed at a high school for about 100 kids. Arch had organized an over night event for the kids, with presentations about how to embrace diversity. The students did work shops, saw movies, ate pizza..and had a little Driscoll concert. That evening we all went over the the Victims Vigil, where the Arch youth team performed some of their..."Differences, gotta have them!"skits. It was a beautiful and moving evening...it ended in the room joining me to sing What Matters. I love this group!! Can't wait for next year.
After WI, I headed to LA for a few days, then to NY..and then to New Mexico. I saw some friends and worked on some music...After two beautiful days in Santa Fe...( did I mention I hung out with goats...?) I headed to Albuquerque...for a benefit bike ride for the Shaken Baby Alliance. Oh, no no no silly, ....I didn't RIDE, I sang at a benefit concert later that night at Stella Blue, in Albq.
The night was wonderful. I met amazing families, with amazing stories to tell. Stories of hope, compassion...and often...tragedy. The sad truth is that people are uneducated about the devastating results of shaken a baby syndrome. For more information on what the Shaken Baby Alliance is...please go to http://www.shakenbaby.com
The concert was a wonderful way to end this beautiful weekend.! Tanuki, a local band opened..and they were great. I convinced the drummer, Charles, to join me on a few songs. (don't tell Noah I'm cheating on him) and Ray and Chris..helped me out on the last song. Thanks to Stella Blue, and everyone in NM for making my time there so wonderful.
Did I mention Toka rocked the Today show!?
little bell thing is going off ...so I have to put my portable electronic thingy away.
I will be in NY for most of the summer, with a brief trip to LA for shows...and a few stops in Montreal, PA..and elsewhere! (check the gig listings!) Our songs are up at Apple I tunes, and we just released a few new tunes on a demo cd for colleges. Hey NC STATE!!!! I know, I know...I owe you a diary entry...I just can't find those damn napkins I wrote everything on. I promise I 'll look for it!
The video for what matters is just about done. We'll have it up on line in about a week.
That's when I'll write my wrap up about the LA trip!
that's all
see you soon.

So Starting in October, Noah and I hit the mid-west...and the mid-west hit back!
Read All
So Starting in October, Noah and I hit the mid-west...and the mid-west hit back..! We traveled to Sienna Heights, Western New England College and Central Michigan U...! All of the schools were great...and a special shout out to CMU...whose students actually slow- danced on cafeteria tables, during our cover of At Last... (You can't really beat that!) click here for a nice review of the show:
Next we headed to NYC for very special concert benefiting the Matthew Shepard Foundation, Oct 10th , at the Fabulous Cutting Room. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the event! A huge thanks to the Cutting Room for donating the door that night to MSF.
The days ahead went something like this........
We were introduced to Right Trax studios and a wonderful engineer named Tom Soares. Right Trax gave us a great deal and working with Tom Soars (who recently won a Grammy for his work on Erika Badhu's cd), was fantastic. The fabulous Dave Eggar was on hand to play cello and the multi talented Noah Heldman recorded live percussion. The piano at the studio was BEAUTIFUL and we recorded in a room large enough to hold an orchestra. (Hey - I little overkill never hurt anyone! We live large!)
So, we recorded a new acoustic version of "What Matters" for the video that would be shot two days later.
Friday Oct 10th -- early rise --coffee in hand, to watch Judy Shepard on the Today show. As usual Judy spoke with grace and conviction...(seems I learn something new every time I listen to her speak). With a little plug for the benefit concert, followed by 30 seconds of What Matters playing on the Today Show, I popped in to the shower and out the door to catch the train to NYC.
NYC - early in the am on the 10th, we met at the Cutting Room to record the back bone of the music video for What Matters. Our last minute crew was assembled by Dana Lee Wood and Jennifer!!! Thank you gals so much for coming through in our final hour!
Anyway, the team came in from all over, Jeff Baker , Glen Marullo and John were 3 of the nicest guys I have ever worked with!! In another turn of excellent luck, a woman I know from LA, Gina....just happened to be in NYC to do hair and makeup for a very "hush- hush" Madonna / Brittany video,...Gina made it over to do my hair and makeup that day..and all for charity! Thanks a ton...everyone!
Lights, action.... ready for my close up.. The boyz got ready, while stuffing 50 + gift bags for the VIP reception! We ran through the song (lip-sync style) several times, ...changed clothes, moved cameras, repeat.
After wrapping the final shot at 4pm...we were ready to sound check for the show, People began to arrive for the pre-show reception. Thanks to everyone who helped out that night. Mike and Jess at the door, The Cutting Room Staff, Cathy Renna, Dan Herary for helping pull it together, Chris Maluck for everything...Tina and Adriana at MSF, Of course Dana, - for the wonderful encouragement, and helping to save the day."Absolute" for the cocktails, Matt Swanson for the flowers, Sarah McMullen for press and rallying the troops, Ed Callahan Linda Marso for cd sales, Ryan for camera work and hospitality, the sound guys, the wait-staff, Dave Gurland, Dave Eggar, Jason Cannon and Noah Heldman for playing...and the many others I am sure I'm leaving out right now! Thanks also to my friends, family and fans...for your support...and a big thanks to Judy Shepard for being there.
It was a very special evening..I met new friends and thanked old fans for their love and support. We raised some money Foundation, some more awareness for the cause and had a beautiful evening together to honor Matthew. Click here for Photos!
We be posting some clips from the video on the website very soon!
The following Monday, after two days of much needed rest in New Jersey, I returned to NYC to head over to the GMCNY rehearsal. The choir had selected What Matters as part of their repertoire for an upcoming concert. Visiting with the choir was amazing. Jeffrey Maynard, the fabulous conductor, was kind enough to let me perform "What Matters" for the choir and share the story of how I came to write the song, with them. I sang, we cried, they sang, I cried.... and I made some wonderful new friends that evening.
SIRIUS RADIO After that, I stopped off at NYC's fabulous Supper Club with Jason Drew from SIRIUS RADIO, (remember that interview?) and some other friends to hear some talent hop up and perform at a cabaret style open mic! Jim Caruso, the MC, was kind enough to invite me up to perform What Matters. The place was silent....as if someone had hit pause on an old movie sound track full of clanking, glasses & hustle and bustle. I was honored to be able to share that song, for the second time that evening , in fabulous NY. Thanks to Jason Cannon and David Gurland for joining me!
After a brief stop in LA -- just long enough to not- not dress up for Halloween. (I caved at the last minute and cooked up a cat costume in 20 minutes )... Meow! we were back on the road!
Although the next leg of the tour would begin in Tampa .... (It looked so promising.. beautiful beaches, great weather- SUN!) in no time, we were back in the mid-west.
We really did have a great time! (you'd be amazed how many colleges they can cram in to one small state...like, say, OHIO!) Ours shows were fantastic!
We visited Wooster College again to perform, with the fabulous Wil Burton opening! (we always love doing shows with him..and we love that Wooster audience)
You know, each school has something amazing to offer; giveaways with mini flashlights, tales of campus folklore that included ghost-stories, overzealous audience participation, strangely overqualified soundmen, cookies, instant coffee, candy, brownies, sugar, sugar, clapping and even same sex slow dances!
We had a blast at each school and we really appreciate the staff and students who always made us feel so welcome.
Noah and I stopped off in MA (for a few gigs )...The Friday we got in, we hit an open mic, (thanks to Indiegrrl Liz Di Biase - for setting that up! and we got to visit with my friend Jennifer.....! Jennifer even joined us on stage to sing back up for What Matters. (thank you!)
This just in- It seems as though we have our first official gig injury! Jennifer's dismount from the stage at the Skellig, landed her in the ER with a broken foot. Seems as though the excitement of the moment led to an unfortunate mis-step, as she made her exit!...Thanks to Dr. Scott for nursing her back to health!
On Saturday we stayed with my good friends David and Nicole in Salem, MA. Thanks for the B&B! As it turned out, we had enough time to sightsee...so Noah and I checked out "The House of Seven Gables " - an historic landmark in Salem. However Noah and I quickly discovered that we both hate history! I am still scarred by a certain childhood trip to Williamsburg, VA which included several hours in the hot summer heat, packed like sardines in to a musty old house, watching some well-intentioned B actor from a local theatre company, re -enact with flawless conviction, the art of churning butter. Those are my issues....Noah simply suffers from Landmarkus-Historitis... (a deep fear of any structure, other than a school or library, which may educate its inhabitants )
Anyway, being that it was the off- season, our tour leader had only two tour-goers..... You guessed it. "What's worse than an historical walking tour" you ask? A private historical walking tour!
So through the old musty house we went- up the rickety stairs, learning of sausage stuffers and boot warmers.
We really should have taken the Salem witch tour...that's a little more my speed. Anyway, we managed to have a load of fun. After the house tour, while freezing our bums off and without our boot warmers, we headed to BUNG HOLE Liquors....to pick up some wine ! ( I love that name...!)
Souvenirs are great. I picked one up from the liquor store which reads " I got it in THE BUNGHOLE!" go figure....
We got to spend some more time with Nicole and David and then it was off to RI. RI was cold and wet......but beautiful !
After our gig at college nearby, Noah and I slipped in to a local haunt to taste the flavor of RI. We hit karaoke night at the neighborhood pub. We noticed that due to an unfortunate placement of the monitor...the patrons had to sing facing the back wall..! (ok, so maybe that wasn't so unintentional after all)
Our sassy bartender entertained us with dirty jokes while our bar tab came to about ten bucks! You can't beat it!
Back in NYC, Noah and I took in a show with my mom.. (Theatre plug! - Ave Q is a riot! Trashy, singing, foul-mouthed puppets.....now that's a good time!) On Sat evening, we had the honor of performing at Cathy and Leah's wedding..It was a beautiful service.....in beautiful NY! We are so happy for them both!
Sunday, I headed in to NYC again, to watch my good friend Kelly Mc Andrew take the stage as Maggie the Cat- in the Broadway production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof....! (Kelly was Ashley Judd's understudy ....but after her stellar performance..people we muttering, "Ashley who????")
Becky's House Concert I headed back for a quiet Thanksgiving in CA..and then a few So.Cal shows - starting with Becky's fabulous house concert in Oceanside. We said we'd take over her house for a good cause ......and we did. She cleared out her furniture, put up some folding chairs and BAM! - we had a concert hall.
Her friends and family were great. We raised a ton of food for the victims of the fires..(I took several large boxes to a nearby drop-off point!) and we made some wonderful new fans. (The wine was damn good too, wasn't it Noah?)
And hey, thanks to that fabulous couple who slowed danced during our set... ("Hey buddy, I'm sure she'll call you...just give it time!")
The next night we did our annual Christmas show at Twiggs...
Can you say fun?
Can you say...Props?
It was like some freakish singer-songwriter's "Rocky Horror Picture Show"... I said "shiny disco ball" and poof! we had a shiny disco ball..!!!
My good friends Shana and Victoria came in from No. CA. (Shana you are a sneaky woman...and I LOVE IT! I'll get cha' back sister!)
Chris Maluck showed up in high style representing Denver... : ) and the usual Twiggs fans were on hand to witness the antics.
Now you have to understand, Twiggs shows aren't really "shows" as much as they are events. Consider if you will, that Twiggs is like our living room...and every few weeks we get together, play music, make fun of ourselves, make fun of you, let you make fun of us, get harassed by certain rowdy audience members who shall remain nameless.......BRETT! , let our audience sing our songs louder than we do, convince friends and loved ones to get on stage and make spectacles of themselves, play some new material , play some old material....play some old material that sounds brand new to us...(hey that's the thrill of live performance baby..) and then, top it all off with a martini!
Now that's a Twiggs show. So thanks for coming out and supporting our dysfunction!
The Trevor ProjectAfter the Twiggs show I joined Chris Maluck for the Trevor Project event in LA. It was a big gala Christmas show with appearances by Lilly Tomlin, Lea Delaria, Duncan Sheik..and others. Hanging out with friends from LA, (new and old ) and the surprise guests from Denver, was fantastic. We really had a nice time and it was ALL for a great cause! For more info on the Trevor Project, please go to www.TheTrevorProject.org
After that, it was back on a plane to NYC. I love NYC at Christmas. I love not being able to catch a cab in the snow, at 5pm on a Friday, in my new pointy boots, with my not-so heavy but oh so stylish black coat....!! Oh I LOVE NYC! Seriously though.....it was magical.. There are certain times in NY that are just breathtaking. The days and nights leading up to Christmas are among my favorite.
I was in NY for one of the most special events I've had the honor of being involved with. The Gay Men's Chorus NY was performing What Matters at their holiday concert in Carnegie Hall. After visiting with them back in Oct, I knew I had to find a way to come back for the event. So I scheduled my shows around their concert...and I am so glad I did.
The show was beautiful and the talent was incredible. The men's voices sounded wonderful under the direction of Jeffrey Maynard. It was a lovely evening of music and mayhem!
What Matters began with a beautiful introduction about Matthew and the Foundation, including a few quotes from my site. The soloist, Curtis Drake, started the opening lyrics and I could feel my mother's hand on my shoulder from her seat in the beautiful balcony box. With that, the tears began to run down my face.
When I sing What Matters, in any venue, at any time,...I am always reminded of the feelings that moved me to write it. Sitting quietly and listening to others sing it for me, always leaves me speechless. This time was no exception. The heart and soul that the men put in to this song, was unmistakable. When the song ended the choir gave me as special thank you that included a spot light on me for a bow...it was one of the greatest moments I've ever had. Carnegie Hall, What Matters and a beautiful tribute to Matthew Shepard. Now that's a good evening.
*And did I mention I met Gina Gershon in the bathroom.... go figure...??
Christmas with friends in San Diego - Anina, Brett, Victoria, Randi and ShanaTo wrap up the night we joined the chorus for a post concert celebration. I had a chance to meet many of the men...who thanked me time and time again for writing the piece. The only real thanks should go to the beautiful choir for singing the piece that Kevin Robinson so generously and thoughtfully arranged for me!
After some snow on Sunday and a trip to the mall for some shopping. We headed in to NYC to see Hugh Jackman in The Boy from Oz. (Theatre plug- Hugh Jackman trades in "Wolverine' for a sleek, Tommy Tune-esque performance that's full of life and charisma. What a doll!) It was a great ending to a great weekend. Now I'm back in LA for a few days- to take care of some business...and begin booking for next year!
One more bit of news... This past summer, The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles and I recorded a very special version of What Matters, at Paramount studios in Los Angeles, CA. I am honored to say that the track is being released on the choir's CD and the GMCLA has generously offered to donate one dollar from each cd sold to the Matthew Shepard Foundation!!!! My experience with this chorus was a beautiful one. Recording the piece, listening to them sing the lyrics, and the entire experience was very moving a special. I made many new friendships and I look forward to traveling with them to Montreal this summer to perform the choral version once again. For more info...www.GMCLA.org
Randi at Mom's house in New Jersey That's all for now... It's back to NY to celebrate Christmas!

Seriously, have you noticed......that wherever I am...there's trouble.?
Tornado's in Minneapolis, sand storms in Vegas, Blizzards in April, Hurricanes in New Orleans, Blackouts in Manhattan- coincidence????? hmm, I think not.
Anyhow..our shows at the Cutting Room, Sha Sha, Cornelia St. Café...and John and Peter's in New Hope PA, were great. Thanks to everyone who came out. (especially the fans who drove 3 hours for 3 songs!!! ) The Sirius interview was a blast...thanks to Jason, Corey, and Romaine for making all possible.
After a few shows here in CA, (Genghis Cohen in LA 9/22 and Twiggs in SD 9/27) we'll be heading out on our College/Club tour. We start off in Cleveland, head over to MN, then on to NY, Iowa, New Mexico and Ohio. We look forward to seeing you at the shows. Thanks for your continued support!

good for baby love.
So today, I had the incredibly fortune of recording with the GMCLA!
This fabulous group expressed an interest in recording What Matters for an upcoming cd. They asked if I would be willing to allow them to record the song and perform it with them. Luckily I was in town long enough to make this happen.
The recording was done at Paramount Studios- Sound Stage M. The place was unbelievable. The room itself could have housed an entire symphony - There was even a full sized movie screen on the back wall..and rumor has it microphones had just been used on a Streisand session.-
In any case...I've said it before and I'll say it again-hearing these incredible men perform What Matters is unbelievable. The men's voices are beautiful -under the superb direction on Bruce Mayhall accompanied by the lovely piano playing of Tom Shell.
I have to give a special mention to Jesse Martin who performed the solo at the concerts I could not attend. He did an outstanding job.-What a voice! And of course dear Kevin Robison, for bringing the choral version to life!!
The song will be featured on an upcoming release by the chorus...and in the truest spirit of the song, they have generously offered to donate a portion of the cd sales to the Matthew Shepard Foundation.-!
After the session...which was as moving as ever... I took a stroll around the lot. When it was time to go, I drove out under those big beautfiul gates-feeling very Audrey Hepburn!
Believe me, I put up quite a fight when they asked for my pass back.
See you on the road.

It was yesterday, while standing on the stage at Rockford College, IL..that I decided it.. I had to share a little of what was going on with you!
Rockford College, Student enrollment 800- was one of the warmest places I've been...response wise. I found members of the football team willing to come on the road with me as body guards, fans who bought cds despite the questionable sound and a host who was willing to drive 5 hours roundtrip to pick me up and return me to the airport.
The moment of truth for me came when upon pulling up to the venue, a small coffeehouse in the quad called the Lion's Den..I read the sign, written on a sheet, which said in large day glow green...
"Randi Driscoll and Free Quizno's ...Today at noon!"
Well at least I got top billing!
A few weeks ago Noah and I started out on our college tour. It's been more fun and more enlightening than I could have ever dreamed.
Starting in Cleveland, Ohio in March, the weather when we landed, a whopping 2 degrees!!! Yuck. With 7 inches of snow on the ground, Noah and I ..with ALL of our gear packed into a Ford Taurus...started our tour..
Our first show at Mansfield College was in a computer lab...on a stage with Astro Turf..(seriously, you just can't make this stuff up) We met some of the nicest people..and our new fan Andy, who would follow us to another Ohio school!
The calendar for that day in the lab read...Randi Driscoll and Bake Sale!
These students were fantastic...and incredibly kind..And the turn out was pretty ok, considering it was the middle of the day.
That night- on to our second school...an evening performance in a recital hall of another school ...!!!Wonderful response..nice sound..we really had a great time.
The next day we drove a few hours to Marietta..a tiny school with some wonderful folks...another beautiful venue..another beautiful tuned Steinway..and all was right in OHIO!
Our show included songs from "The Play", a few covers, and a new song we like to call..."Don't you dare get up and go to the restroom, if you are sitting in the front row"!!!!!
Heather, an unknowing guinea pig and inspiration for my latest masterpiece which includes the poignant lyrics... "How's the bathroom Heather..?"- was greeted to a taste of our improvisational skills.....Being a great sport when we told her, we missed her..she replied.. " I miss Noah.."....as she hugged her boyfriend and batted her eyes!
We're still not really sure what that was about...but let's just say we've made some friends in Ohio.
That night after the show we stopped at a local pub to get the flavor of the town. A couple came up to us and bought us a round a drinks, only to tell us they were at our evening show...sitting in the back.. "You know the one's not singing when you asked us to!!" Anyway.....they loved our show! That was our first spotting in Springfield..hopefully not the last...! We're rock stars.....
"Question? Tell me what you think about that. " ( that was a mandatory dance break!)
Road Signs:
- What we thought we saw- Quaker Steak and Lube
- What we ACTUALLY saw- Quaker Steak and Lube.
- What we thought we saw- Tim Horton's
- What we ACTUALLY Saw- Bob Evans
After a brief stint at the Holiday Inn, where the lovely woman who brought me my breakfast actually uttered this phrase -"So, you from Californy?.. Ain't that where all them movie stars is at....?"..."Well yes", I replied.....( it is, I guess.....)
Our tour took us from Ohio..to Il...and left us wondering what's with that state that just got in the way. Meanwhile...Noah is convinced Idaho, is simply in the wrong place... He's quite sure it should be located further east..No worries, I'm sure half country already thinks it is....
Airports..we love AIRPORTS..! WE love security lines and airports!!!!! ( alright, just checking....)
I need to pause to remind you that we were greeted by some of the coolest people we've ever met at every school in every city. Also, some of the strangest.....
Our next show was in the basement of a dorm. This show was a lesson in sound. I'd like to share my new motto. Any sound is good sound! ( we can't be too picky!) Even, when it's a portable four channel Fender system...that someone's borrowing from a college band that played the hall a week before...and accidentally stole the GOOD sound equip....heck!!!, that's still good sound!
The night included, Goldfish and M&M's in Dixie cups, folding chairs, Christmas lights...and probably one of the most enthusiastic crowds to date... ! Kind, accommodating..and fun.
DRIVING- we love driving, we love driving 7 hours in the mid west! ( ok, you're still with me...) Did I mention the Columbus Bypass-? It's actually a freeway that runs north, south, east and west...go ahead..just think about it.."Well son, you get on 270 going north, unless you're going west... "which will turn in to south??? whatever~
Friday - Elmhurst College. Another great show..thanks to the girls at the soundboard.. And the GOT SPIRIT girls!! We spent the weekend in Chicago. WE love that city. We love it even though a walk to the corner in the wind, cold and ice..left me feeling like Dorothy Hammil on a bad practice day. I have the wrong shoes... (No kidding, Right? I ALWAYS have the wrong shoes...I'm just not very sporty.)
Ok so with no gigs in Chicago..we crashed the Hotel Lounge at the House of Blues, drank some wine..and took over the piano. No kidding. Noah sat on my piano bench and held my mic...( oh no you DI"NT!) yes he did. I played a few songs-- the crowd loved us..and the manager invited us back for a gig anytime we're in Chicago. A little liquid courage does me good.
We had another show at another college -Millikin. Also a nice crowd...and the University of Akron the next day..80 folks piled into a small meeting room with a stage...Great folks , great gig.. AND- Probably one of my favorite quotes to date. " You were really great! I'm not even pissed anymore you made me miss the Real World!"
Noah and I did a show at Wooster College on our second trip out to the mid-west. Will Burton, a local singer/ songwriter opened..! He was great..we had a blast _ We loved this school and we loved this crowd.
"Sorry about the date"..to Matt our driver..( was it Matt??) He was salty- and scorned by love..
Um, the next night we played the University of Quincy. Big crowd...nice folks.
Note: *All of our gigs seem to end with Noah and I begging the hotel bartender, in any given city, to keep the kitchen open long enough to make us Caesar Salad and Potato Skins...! Our post gig meal and wine has become a ritual*
This last leg...I was solo. Randi- her 50 lb piano, her 25 lb gear bag, her (2) 15 lb carry-on's and a Starbucks.. Yikes. The first show was in Grand Rapids, MI. They lost my bag...They ripped my bag...The hotel courtesy shuttle left without me... I called them...they came back.......
*When it rains it pours...,when it leaks the roof falls down upon my head....." They comped me two drink coupons,..( Sorry Noah, I drank yours too! )
The Show-They had a really nice venue and a wonderful planning board..who even took a cover that night to give as a donation to the Matthew Shepard Foundation! Nobody knew how to run the sound board..the very old sound board. But that is now just par for the course.~ ( I actually called Noah to ask for a little tech support....) I sold 9 cds. There were 13 people in the audience ...total. Seriously. But it was still a really good time...and next time we'll do a bit more press!
The next day I flew to Chicago. Mike from Rockford College picked me up. ( thanks MIKE!) ( I finally got my bag.) We drove a few hours to the school - We pulled up outside of the Venue, the Lion's Den..and I was greeted by the " Randi Driscoll and Free Quiznos,Today-! "sign I've made it!
Hmm, this show had the best and worst..best audience worst sound. Nobody's fault really, ...just some trouble with the gear...
Go figure? The speakers were blown..I spent 30 minutes talking to the audience while every single member of the student body came on stage to wiggle cables and turn knobs. People continued doing this throughout my set...After this went on with backround noise of terrible squealing and crackling -I noticed I was selling cds like crazy...HMM, It brings me back to New Orleans Pride..where I didn't utter a note and we sold a ton of cds..I guess they figured...if you can't get it live,...buy a cd. In any case..the crowd was fantastic..and they sang with me..and laughed..and I sold most of my cds. : ) ( Which is good, because my bag is busted!!!!)
How about a Quiznos endorsement.
Last night I landed in Springfield MO. (the "Show me State" )? I played a show this morning at Drury College... A great show! I was brought out as part of the Diversity Programming Semester...I met some great people..and sold out of the remainder of my cds. Happy Day!
I arrived at the airport. Checked in , went to my gate. Only to find out my flight was cancelled. ( must return to ticket counter...) You see it's just that I'm so damn efficient at that Security Check Point...I wanted to do it twice and beat my time! I was re routed to Dallas! ( ? )
So here I am on a plane from Dallas to LA, with the fleeting hopes that my gear is with me.
The shows have been incredible. I keep meeting these random people who know my music from their friends, or heard us on Dawson's Creek, or saw the Laramie Project performed at some theatre where they what matters........or got a copy of " what matters"from a friend...or, or ....or!!! It's all very strange..and very random. ...and all very good. So that's all for now!
I wanted to share it with you.
That's what's goin on in Randi-land..
Hey, it's not Noah's diary..but it's all true....

Read All
Hey there,
Here are a few notes from our recent travels.
On Jan 19th, I headed to Aspen Colorado to perform at the Vision dinner for Gay Ski Weekend.
My travel was not without adventure and chaos, as per usual...My 8 am departure from LA to Aspen was delayed until 1 pm due to a dead battery,
(which believe it or not -was caused by someone leaving the lights on in the plane..HUH? Hey United? Ever heard of AAA...I mean, can we get a jump here...??)
I arrived in Aspen 6 hours later than scheduled.and of course, without my luggage.
That arrived a few hours later.~~~~
The opening party that night and was held at the beautiful Hotel Jerome -where I was staying. It was a nice chance to check out the hotel. and meet some of the volunteers.
The next evening, we went to a film festival where Out in the Cold was being shown.
Out in the Cold is a wonderful and moving documentary about the enormous problem of homeless GLBT youth in America. The Film was produced by the Matthew Shepard Foundation and for more info you can go to http://www.MatthewShepard.org..
We also viewed the newest indie release by Christian Taylor.SHOWBOY-a was witty and fantastic piece..~
The following night, I performed on top of Aspen Mountain at the beautiful Aspen Club for the Vision Dinner. We rode to the top of the mountain in a Gondola.
(-My keyboard traveling in a separate car.-.up the side of a mountain was an odd site to see) At the Vision Dinner, a young man was presented with a scholarship for outstanding leadership in the GLBT community. I also had the pleasure of meeting Esera Tuolo, former NFL star who was on hand to perform at the event.- a true sweetheart.
We had a great night~ even though I spent a great deal of it fighting my sinus infection..
(Randi dined on anti-biotics and tea instead of salmon and merlot)
The next am, bright and early it was off to NY.
What should have happened :
Randi arrives at 4 pm, grabs luggage, grabs Noah, (who arrived on an earlier flight from CA) They stop off in NJ, change, take cab to train station, hop on the mid town direct to NY,
Jump on the subway at Penn Station..reach the Cutting room by 6:30.soundcheck, -play!!
What really happened:
My flight was delayed an hour.( of course it was.) My luggage took forever to grab..
We had too much gear so we had to wait 20 minutes in the C O L D - for a mini van.
To take us to Maplewood -where my mother.saved the day.
Mom, with her incredible foresight-, had arranged for a car service, knowing full -well, in 9 degree weather and battling my illness, a delayed plane and missing our train, would only leave me in what she likes to refer to as "a funk!!!"
We arrived at the Cutting Room with just enough time to drink a glass of wine and defrost.!!!
And then we hit the stage..
And had a nice set opening for our friend Dina Fanai.-~( thanks GIRL!)
The rest of our trip was fantastic-(of course it never got above 14 degrees.!!!!)
We played a private show in NJ for the Everyday Angel Foundation! At AMY and ALLIE"S house : )
LRC at AMY and Allie's NJ Thanks for letting us take over your living room for the private show!
We Really had a great time and met a bunch a wonderful folks. The show was a benefit for Project Warmth.and we were able to gather several coats, blankets and sweaters that were eventually distributed to the homeless!!!
WE hit a great songwriters circle on Monday, at a private apt in NY.. We had a chance to listen to new songs by a number of songwriters as well as perform some music of our own~ We met Suzanne Vega too ..which was a thrill for this girl who can remembers all of the words to Luka!
Tuesday we played Bar B...!
Or as I like to call it.. "The NO- Heat Bar!
It's really tricky to play a keyboard with gloves on...
And Wed we had a great show at The Living Room.-( a club, not a house.)
Thanks to BMI and Brooke Primonte for putting it together.and treating us so swell!
And that was it- I left New Jersey in 12 degree weather and I landed in Long Beach where it was 82 degrees..no kidding~!
We hit the road again in Feb. beginning with a benefit for the Matthew Shepard Foundation in Denver, a NACA conference in Nashville and several colleges in the mid west!
Really hope to see you at the shows! Thanks for the continued support.

Break out the fruitcake, it's that time again.
Randi's year in review....
I'd like to start by thanking to everyone who made it out to the shows this past year....not the least of which...our Twiggs show last Sat! We had an incredible time. If you missed it, well...I'm sure we'll play "Copa Cabana" again. Thanks so much to Noah Heldman and Mike Mannion who played an incredible show...~and many thanks to Peter Bennett and Tim Flannery for coming up and sharing some music with us!
***A portion of door for Saturday's show, will be donated to the Nativity Prep School (we provided a song on a compilation cd last year. "The PRICE of Chance!" The cd is available on line at www.nativityprep.org) Nativity Prep opens small tuition-free, college prep schools for at-risk children in the lowest-income areas of San Diego.***
***We were also able to raise some money for the Matthew Shepard Foundation through the sale of the benefit single What Matters. We are thrilled to say that the single has raised over 25,000 dollars to date. Many thanks to cd baby.com!!!! for offering the single on their site..also donating 100% of the proceeds to the foundation, whose goal is to replace hate with understanding, compassion and acceptance!!!
The sheet music for he choral version of What Matters will be available through Yelton -Rhodes music, in 2003. The proceeds from the sheet music also directly benefit the foundation. Two choirs in Los Angeles have already performed the piece, which was BEAUTIFULLY arranged by Kevin Robison...for men's and women's voices!!! Please check out http://www.yeltonrhodesmusic.com for more info.
The Web Site has some new pictures from our travels this year...Including the GLAAD AWARDS, our performance at City Hall NYC, my appearance as an honorary cast member of Queer as Folk and more!!! http://www.randidriscoll.com
There are some new tracks up (thanks Larry Mitchell) along with a nice plug on the homepage!
We are hitting the road again in January! Details about our tour will be posted on the site soon...but we begin in Aspen, then head to NYC, where we'll play the Cutting Room and a BMI songwriters Circle. (* thanks to BMI for all of your help this year...) then on to Denver, Nashville..and the Midwest.!!!!!
"Come on kids, get in the car........"
Thanks for all of your support this year....it's been a great ride!
and now,
The Top TEN most memorable band moments of 2002~
- Sadly, Randi can no longer ride an escalator without sweating, shaking and breaking into hives (Randi's pants get caught in the escalator at the Westin-LA, 2002)
- COLD EEZE...Randi sucked it down during New Orleans Pride while squeaking out notes, horrifying audience members and small children.
- Hurricanes- in a further attempt to cure her illness, Randi also sucked those down in New Orleans!
- The Rain in Cleveland!
- The ENORMOUS Bugs in Cleveland!
- The Audience singing Breathe at our last 2 shows!!!! ( very WELL I might add!)
- The Audience singing Copa Cabana.....!! ( who knew???)
- The Time Mike was getting a coffee, so Randi and Noah began the second set with an impromtu song, only to beckon the unsuspecting guitarist to the stage...convincing him it was something they had all rehearsed........Randi then broke into a rousing chorus of "I've got the my guitarist has been on line for coffee too long blues...." ~ahh ....good times.
- That a long story short, is never a short story, but usually a short story long...(hey, am I writing this is the third person????)
and drum roll please...
- THE number one thing I will remember most about the past year is the incredible support of friends, family and fans...and the many lives who have touched us along our way....! Thanks so much for being a part of that!

and now, a word from our sponsors....

I hope that each of you has a wonderful holiday season, filled with love and good will, and I look forward to seeing you all in 2003.

A huge thanks to everyone who supports Randi Driscoll... I am so grateful to be able to spend such a huge part of my life doing what I love, and I get to do with really cool people who are dedicated, generous, and always making a difference in the world. I always feel a tremendous amount of support from fans for what I contribute to the band, and I am making a resolution for the new year that I will write my travel diaries in a timely manner! Thanks to Mike Mannion for stepping in, getting up to speed, and very quickly becoming a huge part of the band. A very special thanks to Randi Driscoll, my musical collaborator for the past 7 years, my travel buddy for the past 3 years, and my ticket to rock stardom. ;) 2003 is only going to get better...

"Here's a bit of what's been going on for the past few months!!!!
In the early part of July the folks working with the Matthew Shepard Foundation, got together for our first retreat in Casper Wyoming. The trip, which lasted about 4 days, was a combination of fun, sun, rodeo, red beer, fried green tomatoes, friendship and love! We had time to take in the sights of Wyoming.and spend a chance getting to really know one another. I was on my best behavior sporting my cowboy hat at a genuine Wyoming Rodeo.(Note: Don't take a vegetarian to the Rodeo.! I was rooting for the calf the whole time) But we had a blast visiting the Teddy Bear Museum, (Yes, that's what I said. Who Knew? ) a beautiful memorial in the center of town for Matthew, the hot-springs, The Safari Grill...(umm, not so much...)...and along with all of the sightseeing, we got a great deal of work done.
Once back in CA, we hit San Diego Pride. It was a sunny turn out with lots of support from our fans. The weekend was topped off by a party at the beach to celebrate my birthday. Having enjoyed one too many Mohidos (sp?)" my favorite, least favorite drink in the world." I proved that Beach Twister is in fact a real sport! Shortly thereafter.I relinquished my crown as Smash Ball Champion.and proved to myself, that I shouldn't give up my singing career for a life as a"Limbo-ist...( *one who Limbos )
After San Diego, Noah and I headed out to Santa Fe, NM to do some recording. Santa Fe was beautiful, the place we stayed was a fabulous retreat and the recording went incredibly well! The new tracks will be released on a new version of the play due out in Nov. To hear some clips from the new tracks, please go to www.mp3.com
After Santa Fe, we headed out to Denver! We love Denver! Always! Our trip out was to perform during the Colorado Aids Walk for the Summer Splash Concert series at JR's. We love JR's! This was a ton of fun. The sets went well both days and we made some great new fans. Opening slots for Crystal Waters and Jody Watley took me right back to high school. Sat evening, I participated in a game of Family Feud.for charity. As an honorary member of the "Queer as Folk" cast I was joined by fellow team members Scott Lowell and Robert Grant, from the series. We beat the pants off of the cast of "Survivor"- And we did it with finess.and grace...(and we only cheated a little!)
The boys from QAF are absolute dolls and we look forward to working with them in the future.
After a weekend of dancing, singing, partying and meeting wonderful people, we hopped on a flight back to LA..only to drive the next morning at 4am down to SD to perform at CAMP PIERCE! (We love Camp Pierce and we love Ms. Julie Doria, our friend and head camp counselor! She asked us to come play for these kids..and we loved every minute of it!)
The next week, I headed home to NJ to celebrate Nana's 80th Bday.( * see Noah's Diary = Nana!)
Great time, headed in to the city for Into the Woods, great show! Loved Rapulzels' Prince- (go Christopher)And really enjoyed Sept in NY.
Came home to LA and headed right back to Santa Fe to finish up those tracks. As it turned out that trip,. was more for my spirit than anything.it was a much needed detour on my path..
And finally ..the PRIDE festival I'd been waiting for all Year.. New Orleans Pride.!!!
There's really too much to write (* see Noah's Diary for details) but suffice it to say..
'The BIG EASY" was not SOOOO easy. A few words should sum it up:
- ISADORE- the hurricane
- HURRICANE- the drink
- A THROAT INFECTION-mine
- THERA FLU- the other drink
After a week of CNN, the Weather Channel, and correspondence from our friends at Pride, "OH! It's on: no it off, ..no it's back on!!.no it's off???!!Yikes. We hopped on the plane and hoped for that the best.
(with images of Pride FLOATS FLOATING DOWN BOURBON STREET!!!!!)
I got really sick, for the first time in ages! YUCK !!!! A nasty throat thing-that landed the same time our plane did!
I stayed in bed all day and night Friday and didn't see a damn bit of the city. Saturday, repeat, same thing. We all marched in a no spectator parade, (* see Noah's diary)and I consumed more Thera Flu than any human should.
And as an aside, Just what, in the name of Creole is COLD EEZE- ?? A six dollar cough drop, that's what it is!."come on people"?
Saturday night at Neutral Grounds in New Orleans, I made it through 25 minutes of a 45 minute set.before my voice went out completely. I tried to salvage the set by speaking all of the words to "Letting in the Rain".It wasn't sexy- , it wasn't even audible!
Sunday - worse. Not a peep. Our 3:30 set on the main stage consisted of Randi squeaking out 3 notes of IN your Eyes, begging the audience of thirty to sing for me.looking at Noah desperately, who prompltly performed a spontaneous fifteen minute drum solo ...
And,
For our big finish -"dunt dunt", I threw my hands up in defeat...!!!!
Finally,
I spoke to the crowd( ? )about why we were there.trying hard not to scare them with the sound of my cackles. Then we played the benefit single cd, "what matters" over the PA.system.
The strange thing was.once the song was on.people actually listened.
I sat on a stool on stage and listened, and.occasionally .yes, lip synched..!?.
SURREAL
We actually sold some cds.
When the emcee got back up..he thanked us for coming.looked me right in the eye and said "Honey,
It's the first time today, that someone on this stage has actually lip synched to there own music!"
(which I think, was actually a compliment...)
So, for those of you who ask me what I saw in New Orleans,,
Here's my answer.
WALGREENS!
So that about sums up the past 2 months...It's always something!
More later.MY plane is about to land...Thanks for your continued support...see you at the shows."

Hey There! We just got back from a few weeks on tour. What an incredible summer it's been so far. My first Pride Festival took me to Northern Maine.where I met some incredible folks...and had a great time playing a place...I'd never been before!
Shortly thereafter, we headed to DC for PRIDE. What an event! Tons of people, sun, fun, a few gigs in some cool venues..and the Hotel Rouge. If you are ever in DC...you must check out this hotel...with Red Rooms and a bloody mary bar in the lobby daily. Can't beat that!.After DC we headed to Cleveland PRIDE...where the folks were kind but the weather was not. Be sure to check out Noah's Diary...for a look at our fancy gig wear...(ponchos, and rubber boots) and a snap shot of the Man Eating bugs from Hell (they took up more room on stage then we did)!
After some cool shows in Cleveland..we headed back for a few days in California..
We regrouped and landed in NYC for a gig at one of our favorite spots, The Bitter End.
As usual we had a blast..and finished the night off sharing some fabulous margaritas with family, and friends..(new and old!)
The following night, was one I will not soon forget. We were asked to sing at City Hall for the Senate Pride Awards Ceremony. Among the recipients, were John Stamos, Olympia Dukakis, Peter Paige, The AB FAB gals and Rufus Wainwright..( just to name a few.) Our presence there was on behalf of the Matthew Shepard Foundation and as a representative, I was asked to sing "what matters". The event was surreal. When I looked up from Amazing Grace, my eyes, fell upon...Olympia Dukakis..and the rest of the honorees.looking at me...as I began What Matters. The audience was supportive...and wonderful...And I could not have been more honored to be in such company. It was truly magical. The speeches were heartfelt and warm , and spirited. Peter Paige gave a wonderful Keynote Speech that was witty and poignant...and the Ab Fab gals...played it up like nobody's business. Later, at the after party at XL..I continued to meet some amazing people...with wonderful stories and insight. And others who were just plain funny as hell. When Cindy Lauper showed up...only to lead the entire bar into an accapella version of SHE BOP! I knew my life was truly stranger than fiction.
The following morning, .we flew to Toronto for PRIDE..Estimated attendance this year was close to 1 million. We joined in the parade..and held the Matthew Shepard Foundation Banner as we walked for 2 1/2 hours.for about 500,000 folks. It was a wonderful experience..that ended with a nice gig for us at the Free Xone..and a few cocktails at "Woody's". !
Now, back in LA.for a while we are getting ready for a trip to Wyoming, followed by San Diego PRIDE!!!
We can't thank you enough for your continued support along the way. We've enjoyed meeting all of you at the shows..from CA to Toronto.!
Please continue to write..! I love the mail! ( something to do on flights when you've already seen Zoolander 20 times..!) and thanks for sharing the music and the message!!!!! Love and peace - Randi
p.s. DON'T forget to check out Noah's Diary...for the uncut version of our tour, completely uncensored, -with deleted scenes!!!
